Robert Lee, 23, is an archaeologist and novelist based in Southampton. His first book, Shattered Souls, was published in 2008.

Have I caught you at a good time? Yes, I'm just on the phone.

So what's your usual Sunday routine? Wake mid-morning, a lazy pre-lunch routine of listening to the radio and catching up on the latest news. Afternoons are set aside for work and writing depending on my mood. I am currently working on my second novel, Days of the Black Crane. In the evening I'll relax and prepare for the start of a new week.

Five years ago did you think you'd be where you are now? No, I didn't have a clue where I'd be or what I'd be doing.

Where will you be in five years? I'll be a doctorate by then so no doubt working in a research department. Excitingly this could be anywhere in the world.

What's your motto in life? I don't really have one but if I was forced to pick one it would be 'March or Die'. It's the French Foreign Legion motto and the general gist of it is 'keep going, don't stop and don't be broken'.

I have 24 hours in your hometown. What should I do? Southampton: There isn't really enough to fill 24 hours but check out the Archaeology museum, the Cow Herds pub, the Soul Cellar and spend the rest of the time in the New Forest.

You've got thirty minutes in the kitchen. What are you going to knock up? Fry up some salmon and serve it on a bed of coconut and chili rice with a side of squid rings.

You've just won £10 on the lottery. Spend or save? I would think I should save it, but then spend it. Probably on a sandwich.

What can't your friends/family understand about you? My cynicism.

What are you currently obsessed with? Since watching a programme about The Battle of Hastings a couple of evenings ago, I have been looking into Dark Ages history a lot. Although I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with it.

What should we all be doing more of? Speaking out against political correctness. I don't, but we ought to.

And finally, when you go to bed tonight, are you looking forward to Monday morning? Not fussed either way. It'll happen so I'll get on with it.

  1. Shattered Souls looks very interesting. Is there a prize for correctly guessing who wrote the "About The Author" piece on the Amazon website?

  2. I imagine the author. I can not testify as to whether it is interesting or not as I am somewhat stuck on page two.

  3. You spelled 'archaeologist' incorrectly.

  4. twice in fact...

...and I said squid rings, not shrimp rings. Tsk.

  5. Yes, thank you. A text would have been sufficient rather than posting it in the comments section.

It matters not though as I think most would agree that it's the way I tell them, not the way I spell them.
